Diagnostic Assessments

Karina Feldmann psychology provides diagnostic assessments for autism spectrum disorder to help clients better understand their brain style and provide recommendations for supports. Assessments include a comprehensive report and a feedback session.  She works from a neurodiversity-affirming framework.

Assessments are offered for clients from 5 years of age to 11years old.  All assessments are offered face-to-face or by Telehealth only for the initial interview, parent interview and feedback session.

  • Karina uses the following tools in her assessments process:

    • Autism observational assessment – ADOS-2

    • Autism parent interview – ADI-R

    • School observation

    • Functional capacity questionnaires – WHODAS-Child - World Health Organisation Disability Assessment Schedule – Children and Youth, Vineland-3

    • Questionnaire library includes Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) and Autism Spectrum Quotient Children’s Version (AQ-Child)

  • After completing the assessment intake form, Karina will then book you in for an initial 90-minute consultation to discuss the presentation and explain the assessment. This appointment is a separate fee of $350 and if a referral is in place a rebate could be applicable.  The total assessment fee includes a report and a feedback session to discuss the findings.  After the initial consultation, a $300 deposit will be taken and parent/ teacher questionnaires will be sent out.  The assessment can be paid upfront in instalments before the corresponding tool is discussed. The balance of the fee will be due at the final assessment session, and the feedback session will not be booked, and the report will not be released until the full fee has been paid.

  • Medicare does not offer rebates for assessment services.  Your private health insurance may offer rebates depending on your circumstances; please contact your insurance to find out more.

Medicare may offer a limited rebate for Autism assessment services; you will need a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist (not a GP) for clients under 25 years, under the ComplexNeurodevelopmental Disorders item numbers.  This will provide a rebate of $98.95 per hour for up to four hours of assessment.

  • After the initial interview session, Karina takes a non-refundable deposit of $300 which goes towards the cost of the assessment.  This is to cover the cost of the screening questionnaires and administrative set up plus rental of equipment.  You can choose not to proceed with the assessment once you have booked it; however, you will only receive a brief report with a summary of the initial sessions and the results of the questionnaires that were completed.

  • If clients wish to apply to the NDIS, Karina is happy to assist with completing the required application forms. Please note that this support is separate from the assessment process and will incur an additional fee, calculated based on the number of hours required to complete the application
